Acknowledging the Land Acknowledgement

Session description: Land acknowledgements are statements that help us express the relationship between the land, Indigenous people, and the people who settled here. Land acknowledgements in recent years have become more common. They happen before major events, our meetings, and they are on our institution's websites. This lightning talk gives an Indigenous perspective/opinion on land acknowledgements, and how we can improve them.

Learning outcomes:
By the end of this lightning session...

• Staff will be able to think critically about the land acknowledgements that are given.  

• They will be able to deliver more meaningful land acknowledgment at library events.  

• They will have an Indigenous input on what makes a more engaging land acknowledgement.
